Learning through play
Though learning happens right from birth, you may wonder how we build more complex, higher-order skills such as creativity, critical thinking, collaboration and problem-solving. One approach – often overlooked – is play!
Through story and play, we want to help to initiate and engage in meaningful conversations with children about discrimination. So, we’ve started a story to show youngsters in order to spark these conversations.
Join our efforts to shape the minds of our future generations in a way that celebrates kindness, playfulness and diversity. Show your children our short video, discuss what has happened and what might happen next, let them imagine how the story ends and submit their creation.

Conversations about discrimination will look different for each family. While there is no one-size-fits-all approach, the science is clear: the earlier parents start the conversation with their children the better (unicef). Using play to confront difficult conversations with kids about diversity, equity and inclusion helps them to understand, keeps them engaged in a meaningful way and helps to develop their character and international mindedness.
We’ve prepared an instruction kit for the kids to follow along to as they get thinking and get building. Remember, this is an an activty designed to spark important conversations with children, so they’ll need your support along the way.
We’re here to help along every step of the way.
We know it can be difficult to get these conversations started, so we’ve gathered a list of our favourite children’s stories which compassionately address discriminatory issues in a meaningful way.
