You don't need a lot of bricks or a lot of mini-figures, all you need is patience and imagination.

NOTICE FOR TEACHERS, PARENTS AND GUARDIANS:

Before getting started, we recommend you check out our help section where you can find technical support for the project and resources to help initiate difficult but important conversations with kids.

The following instructions are intended to be read by the kids participating in this project. Most kids will need the help of an adult to complete some of the technical tasks, but let them try by themselves first under supervision.

Meet Sully, Brock and Belle.

If you haven’t already, you need to start by watching the introduction to our story with Sully, Brock and Belle at the top of this page.

2

Discuss what has happened and what might happen next.

This is the most important step. Now that the children have watched the intro to the story, take the opportunity to talk about why some people might be nasty at times, whether there is hope for change, how even good people can follow unkind leadership, and how communication, courage and kindness can help to correct wrong doings.

We've compiled a list of questions you might use to start the discussion, but don't be afraid to also follow the natural flow of the conversation.

Imagine a better future

It's time to get creative! Hopefully, now you've had a good chat with the kids about the needlessness for nastiness, and they can see the potential for a happy ending for all of the characters in the story.

Have them imagine an ending for the story, and to draw it out on a storyboard.

Here's a template for an empty storyboard that you can download to print and use.

Build and create your vision

Work together with the kids to bring their imagined story's end to life by creating the concluding video. You don't need a lot of bricks or a lot of mini-figures, all you need is patience and imagination.

Stop Motion Studio is a fantastic application to help you easily make a video of the scenes you create. Download the app from the app store on any smartphone or tablet.

Upload and share

Now that you’ve done all the hard work, it’s time to share it. Upload your video to our projects submission form with all of your information.

Get inspired

We know it can be difficult to get these conversations started, so we’ve gathered a list of our favourite children’s stories which compassionately address discriminatory issues in a meaningful way.

How to get the discussion going

Once you’ve watched the introduction video, use it as a reference to introduce discussion points on unfair behaviour and group dynamics. Here are some ideas of questions you might ask, but also gauge the conversation and let it flow naturally:

• Why do you think Brock is nasty to Sully?
• Do you think Brock is a bad person?
• Do you think that Belle likes Brock?
• Do you think that Brock could be more      kind? How?
• Do you think Sully looks different to the    other kids?
• Might that be why Brock is being nasty to    him?
• Why do you think the other kids are    laughing and being mean to Sully? Are they    bad people?
• Can good people sometimes do mean    things? Why?
• What do you think Sully should do?
• What do you think Belle should do?
• What do you think Brock should do?
